Spray Field and Drain Field Repair in Welfare, TX

Spray field ponding, soggy ground or odors in the yard? We diagnose a failing spray or drip field, fix the real cause, and rebuild the field when it has truly failed.

Spray Field in Welfare

On an aerobic system the spray field, or the drip distribution field, is where treated and disinfected effluent is dispersed back into your yard, and over the years it can clog, pond or simply wear out. You see it above ground: standing water in the spray zone, a sewage smell outside, lush green stripes, spray heads that no longer throw a clean pattern, or alarms tripping because the pump tank cannot empty. We diagnose and repair spray fields and drain fields across Kendall County. A lot of "field" trouble on the limestone and clay around Boerne is really a clogged drip line, a failed dosing pump, sun-rotted spray heads or a treatment problem upstream pushing solids into the field, so we find the real cause first. Where the field itself has failed, we redesign and rebuild it to the available soil and setbacks, pull the Kendall County permit and get your system dispersing cleanly again. On the older conventional systems still running in Fair Oaks Ranch and around Comfort, we repair drain field lines the same way, cause first, then the fix that actually holds.

Septic service in Welfare

Welfare is the tiny community on the Waring-Welfare Road just off I-10 between Boerne and Comfort, a few old buildings and the ranch land and acreage that has been subdividing around them as Boerne grows north. Homes here are spread out, a mix of long-held ranch places and newer custom builds on five to twenty acres, and every one of them is on septic. The newer builds and any replacement system are aerobic units; the limestone under Welfare leaves no option for a conventional drain field. We hold maintenance contracts, repair compressors, pumps and spray heads, inspect systems for sales and install new units across the Welfare area. Most of our Welfare calls are from people who bought land here for the quiet and the view and are building their first home on acreage, which means a new aerobic system, a Kendall County permit and a maintenance contract from day one. The second most common call is a buyer closing on an existing ranch house whose system has never had a contract on record.

  • Diagnosis of ponding, odors, soggy ground and pump alarms
  • Pump, spray-head and treatment problems ruled out before condemning a field
  • Clogged drip lines and worn spray distribution repaired or replaced
  • Failed spray fields and conventional drain fields redesigned to your soil, setbacks and permit
  • Honest call on repair versus full replacement, no needless tear-outs
  • Guidance on protecting the new field from runoff and overload

Common Septic Problems in Welfare

The aerobic system problems we see most around here, and how we handle them.

First-time acreage builders

Much of Welfare is being built on for the first time, by owners who have never had a septic system. The install has to be designed to the soil and the setbacks and permitted by Kendall County, and the maintenance contract starts the day the system is turned on. We walk new builders through all of it.

Shallow limestone and limited soil

Welfare sits on hard, shallow limestone with pockets of thin soil. There is nowhere for effluent to go except a spray field sized carefully to what the ground can take, which is why every system here is aerobic. A unit that stops treating properly ponds a field with no margin quickly.

Ranch houses with no contract history

Older Welfare homesteads have often run for decades with no maintenance contract on file. When one sells, the buyer inherits a system of unknown condition and a compliance gap. An inspection and a contract in the new owner’s name fixes both.

Spray Field in Welfare: FAQs

Do you serve Welfare and the acreage off the Waring-Welfare Road?
Yes. We cover Welfare, the Waring-Welfare Road, the I-10 frontage between Boerne and Comfort and the acreage tracts north of Boerne. Tell us where the property is and we will come prepared.
I am building on acreage near Welfare. When should I call about the septic?
Before you finalize the house site. The site evaluation and soil analysis determine where the tanks and the spray field can go, and the setbacks from your well, the house and the property line affect the layout. We design the system, pull the Kendall County permit and install it to TCEQ standards, then start the required maintenance contract.
How often does an aerobic system on acreage really need service?
Every four months at minimum, which is what Texas requires regardless of lot size. Acreage systems are easy to forget because nothing is close to the house, but the compressor, chlorinator and spray heads still wear. We visit on schedule, service the unit and file the report with the county.
There is standing water in my spray area. Does the whole field need replacing?
Not necessarily. Those are classic signs of a struggling field, but on aerobic systems the cause is often upstream: a failed dosing pump, clogged drip emitters, rotted spray heads or a compressor that quit treating the waste. All of those are fixable without a full rebuild. We diagnose the whole system first. Meanwhile, cut back on water use so you are not loading a field that cannot disperse.
Can a failing spray field or drain field be saved?
It depends on why it is failing. If the problem is upstream, a dead pump, clogged emitters or poor treatment from a tired compressor, fixing that and resting the field can restore it. If the soil in the field is fully clogged or the field was undersized for the home, it usually has to be redesigned and replaced under a Kendall County permit. We give you the honest call instead of defaulting to the most expensive option.
How do I keep a new field from failing again?
Keep the system under its required maintenance contract so the compressor and chlorinator keep the effluent clean before it ever reaches the field, spread heavy water use out rather than all at once, keep vehicles and livestock off the spray area, and divert roof and storm runoff away from it. On Hill Country ground, keeping extra water off the field is half the battle.
